The Gospel: Defined in 20 Seconds

Previously, I posed the question: If you had to choose one verse from Scripture to sum up the whole of the Bible, what would it be?

I'd still love to hear from more of you what that verse would be.

But here's another question/challenge for you -

You're in an elevator with a friend and you have only 20 seconds in which to answer their question, "What is the Gospel?"

Ready . . . GO!

Sin is bad. Hell Is Hot. God is Good. Jesus Has Risen and Saves Sinners. Repent and Run to Christ, and He will receive to to paradise.

Some friend if you only have 20 secs to explain, he must have asked the question when his floor rang!

(moderate speed 20secs)
Sin is rebellion against God, our sins deserve the wrath of God in hell, yet God by grace saved sinners FROM Himself, THROUGH Jesus' suffering the punishment of our sins on the cross, TO make us His children forever! Repent and believe on Jesus CHrist and you will be saved

"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Ro 3:23, ESV).

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ro. 6:23, ESV).

It takes more than a lifetime to unpack these words that can be spoken in 20 seconds.

Romans 3:23-26 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus."

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
